Take me back
RMIT – ‘What’s Next’

“What feels like many moons ago, I went to RMIT as a student. So this was something that felt a little closer, or full circle or something – that we were now working on a campaign with them. I felt like I had a bit of a view from the inside and an idea of what I thought it was like to go to RMIT. Even though a lot has changed, a lot felt really familiar, and I think that helped me create the scenes we wanted to capture. It was very much grounded in what was real, but I wanted to heighten things a bit – amplify that sense and feeling of going to the ‘cool’ university. I remember feeling like you actually ‘do’ things here, and that was a big part of the campaign. I feel like we made something that felt really honest.”

“I was excited by the challenges of the shoot, in essence it was doco but we wanted to create something that felt big and fresh. In terms of gear and crew it was very stripped back and we had to rely on working with the sun and what the location could offer. Having these limitations means you have to think on your feet and experiment which I really enjoy.”

“Going into the project, Jarred and I shared a lot of references between us and we both were interested in pushing the film a little darker and more gritty than the usual university films. We felt like it was a justifiable approach and it was a chance to change it up.”
