KYE – ‘Finest Quality’

When a brief for a music video slides across your desk featuring Melbourne based pop darling KYE riding a mechanical horse and causing mischief inside a Vietnamese supermarket, you sit up and pay attention.

Fresh off the back of an eight week lockdown, KYE’s ‘Finest Quality’ was a much needed creative release for Wildebeest director Annelise Hickey and DOP / long time collaborator Joey Knox. What followed was a product of two artists blazing at the height of their creative powers.

Since the song speaks to things being of the finest quality, we knew we wanted to create something that embodied that spirit, especially in its aesthetic values.

The film had to show irreverence to authority, but also be stylish in its execution.

KYE isn’t simply a misfit; she’s the irrepressible master of her own domain.

Annelise Hickey (Director)

“When I heard Finest Quality, I knew this was a project I wanted to work on. The song is a banger and I’m a fan of Kye’s music so it was a no brainer for me. Like on all music videos, you have to listen to the track a million times over and I’m still into it!”
