A short film with a great Australian cast, a witty and morbid script, and the opportunity to turn the mirror in on religion and society. It was a project director Julian Lucas was never likely to pass up on.
Brought in by agency Gen C to help edit the script and direct the film, ‘For Your Sins’ ponders the crucifixion of Jesus (Jay) through the modern lens of a self-absorbed society – aptly represented by a team of opportunistic advertising executives.
Whatever challenges that arose from directing the long scenes were quickly overcome by the experienced and talented cast, which includes Ryan Shelton, Michala Banas, and Dave Lawson.
Julian applied his signature style to the film, working with the actors to draw out the scenes and allow the dialogue to set the tone and pace of the comedy.
The film was selected to open the 2018 St Kilda Film Festival, nominated for best comedy and is now being developed into a TV series by Julian and Gen C.
